Interview with QUENTARO | Big Smile Magazine
note: you can read original interview at the pages of Big Smile Magazine
1. Please introduce yourself (or the members of the band) and tell us what you do?
Hi, my name is Rasul and I'm the only member of "Quentaro". So, Quentaro is a young
(it was founded at the beginning of 2007) neo-classical project from Mother Russia.
2. Are there any advantages / disadvantages to working solo?
There are a lot of advantages. I really can do everything what I want. I participated
in 2 different projects 3 or 4 years ago. We had a lot of problems about our different
attitude to music's ideology, genres etc. Now I'm simply free and I like it. And I just like
to do everything by myself only. But I like to collaborate with other bands/projects sometimes.
For example I plan to release a special mini-album of remixes with my Brazilian friends
PhantaSystem on my netlabel soon. And not only with them.
And about disadvantages… Sometimes I just tired to do everything by myself. But it's not a problem.
3. How do you release your music?
This spring I founded Lomeanor netlabel for release my album "People on the horizon". It was
a debut album of Quentaro and debut release of netlabel too. Now Lomeanor grow up, for this time
it have 4 releases and very soon will be out more and more new things including the first
international compilation of Lomeanor. All this releases will be available for free download of course.
I never was thought about music as a way to make money. I think it's an art at the first, not business.
4. Any particular song you would recommend for the first time listener?
Let me think… Maybe "Malta Anar"? It could be a nice introducing to Quentaro's world.
5. Tell us about the new recording.
Well, I think it will be a new page on Quentaro's history. I really hope. And I hope to finish
this album at the end of this year. For this moment it finished on a half and I can only say that
"Golden Sun" (new album) is inspired by Arabian, Chinese and Japan cultures. But medieval marches
like "Malta Anar" and "Procession of antiquity's heroes" from "People on the horizon" will be on GS too.
6. How did you choose the album title?
Let's take "People on the horizon". What do you think about when you see people on the horizon in
the historical or fantasy movies for example? What they bring? War? Blood? Murders? Or something else
like glory and hope? So, I just tried to unite all song's meaning in one title. By the way, there is
no song called "People on the horizon" on album. It's only a uniting title.
7. Would you compare your music to any other band/ bands? Who are your influences?
Sometimes I get comments from my listeners like: "your music sounds like Arcana". Or "like Dead Can
Dance". Or "The Moon Lay Hidden Beneath A Cloud" for example. I think it's not a big problem, because
Quentaro (especially on the earlier stages) really inspired by these bands. Not totally of course. But
it's inspired anyway. And these comparisons are big compliments for me.
8. Who/ what are you listening to these days?
Portishead. I just can't turn off their music. It's a really great band I think. And it very suitable
for this raining autumn. In my opinion.
9. What do you do with your time when you are not doing music?
- I'm walking, jumping, crawling, sleeping, eating and watching how grass is growing up!
Ha-ha, joke.
Thanks for the interview.
